Exhibit
Overview
This project was designed to create a digital and print solution for San Diego museums. Both solutions should act as a guide to museums across San Diego and provide specific locations and information about each museum.
Solution
Exhibit is an interactive guide of San Diego’s local museums. Using the printed book or downloadable app, users can explore San Diego and support and stay up-to-date on surrounding local businesses. Hand-drawn patterns mimic the ornate gold frames that house some of the most famous artworks in San Diego.
Design Tools
Typefaces Proxima Nova and Chapman work together across the spreads of Exhibit to create a clean and modern feel to contrast with the ornate details of the gilded frame-inspired patterns. The color palette is simple and used boldly to further express the creativity and timelessness that is San Diego museums.
Deliverables
Deliverables include the printed 12-page Exhibit book which features a map of San Diego museums, full-bleed photos of some of the most iconic museum buildings, and information about the top museums. The downloadable Exhibit app also guides users to museums and allows them to earn points and support local businesses.
Process
During my planning process, I played with many configurations of type. I focused on how the pages would read in a user’s hand and how the Exhibit app would be used to better the user experience in a way the physical book can not. It was important to make both of these deliverables accessible to users of a wide age range as museums are something all ages of people enjoy.
